What occurs to your mind when you think of rehab? You might imagine the place to be dark and dingy with patients locked up in their rooms. Well, this is how the rehabs are portrayed in movies but the reality is entirely different. Rehabs are places where patients have the freedom to participate in several activities and therapies. They no longer even look like the ones shown in movies.
Let us tell you more about what happens in rehab.
What Happens in a Rehab?
The entire rehab or treatment program is divided into four major steps. This is how the steps are laid out:
- Intake assessment
After finalizing a rehab center, you will have to undergo an assessment. This is the step where the rehab staff will run a few tests to better understand your mental and physical condition. Based on the results derived from the test, you will be recommended the treatment programs.
- Detox or Medical Detox
This stage lasts for about 3 to 7 days when you need to completely quit the substances. By the end of the detox period, you will be free of all the toxins. Meanwhile, as you detox, you will also experience some withdrawal symptoms. If the symptoms are too harsh, you would be given medical support to handle the situation.
- Therapies
After successfully detoxing off the substances, you can move on to attending therapy sessions. These can be individual, group, and family sessions. During the therapies, you identify the triggers for your addiction and learn to overcome them in the future.
- Aftercare
This is the less intense version of treatment where the goal is to maintain your sobriety. During this phase, you just need to attend the sessions and go back home to live your normal life. Here you get a chance to implement your learnings from the previous stage.
With these 4 steps, you are sure to recover within a few months.
