How to Check Yourself or a Loved One into Rehab?

Mar 28, 2022 | General TRC Information

Once you have decided to get rid of the addiction, the next step you may take is to choose the right rehab and check yourself or your loved one in. While you do this process, you might have some questions regarding checking in, hence, we have listed down some guiding points for you below.

Talk To A Professional

Always talk to a professional before finalizing anything. You may ask them questions related to the therapies that will be provided and about the amenities and  other facilities that you may get.

You can expect therapies like:

  • Group therapy
  • Personal drug counseling
  • Trauma therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Experiential therapy
  • Psychoeducational instruction

Some of the treatments to expect:

  • Residential rehab
  • Outpatient treatment
  • Intensive outpatient treatment

Verify Your Finances

You will have two options to pay for the treatment – either by insurance or by self – payment. In case you wish to pay via insurance, you want to verify the insurance benefits with your provider and if paying by self, you may set up a payment schedule with the center. You can also discuss about other things like:

  • Available scholarships
  • Impact on your credit score
  • General rehab cost
  • Level of care recommended
  • Deductibles
  • Other payment options

Take The Pre-Admission Screening

Before getting accepted into a rehab center, the center staff will conduct a basic screening process to collect some information about you. This information will help them identify the best treatment for you. You will be asked questions regarding:

  • Treatment history
  • Drug history
  • Types of drugs abused
  • Family life
  • Legal issues
  • Underlying mental disorders
  • Employment conditions
  • Current medications
  • History of trauma or abuse
  • Family history of addiction
  • History of psychiatric care

The assessment will be about 20 to 40 minutes long and will be completely confidential.

Receive An Admission Date

Once the above mentioned formalities are done, you will be given an admission date. This is the time when you begin to prepare for your arrival and stay at the rehab center. You may make all the travel arrangements or can ask for help from the center. After receiving the admission date, you are also expected to inform all your loved ones and your employers about your treatment. Make all the arrangements regarding child or pet care if there’s no one to look after them once you leave.

Travel To The Facility

This is the final stage of the admission process. You are expected to reach the center at the given time and date. If you face any last minute issues with your travel, inform the center so they can reschedule your arrival.
